No More Dairy, No More Wakeful Nights

What a wonderful week!! As you know Mason wakes up every 1-2 hours throughout the night crying, after a year and a half of this, it is an absolute form of torture. We received the referrals for Mason to undergo a sleep study and to meet with a surgeon to remove his tonsils and adenoids. All of a sudden, I wasn't so excited to take Mason in to yet another test, or put him under a surgery no matter how "minor" they say it is. I remembered a few people telling me when their kids were having ear infections they took them off dairy and gluten, and miraculously the ear infections cleared up. I thought to myself, breathing and ears are all related, maybe this could work for Mason. I began doing some research online, and found that removing dairy especially had a direct effect on children who suffer from sleep apnea. Not only that, but removing them could lead to more infections, leave Mason talking nasaly, and only actually help 25% of the time. This is an amazing article every parent should read if they are having any issues with sleep apnea or Tonsilitis in their child. http://www.drbriffa.com/2007/02/02/why-removing-tonsils-is-not-usually-the-answer-for-children-who-do-not-breath-easily/

So, I believe we are going on day 4 of no dairy, substituting with goats milk, and all I can say is Halleluja!!!!! Mason's sleep is getting progressively better. We are doing 7 oz of goat milk once before bed and once in the morning: Day 1: we started the goat milk in the afternoon, Mason had a typical, terrible night. Day 2: slept 9pm-3:30am, had a coconut water, woke up at 4:40am, had 7oz. goat milk, slept until 8am. Day 3: slept 10pm-4:30am, had 7oz goats milk, slept until 7:30am. Day 4: Slept at 7:30pm until 4:00am, had 7oz goat milk, woke up at 7:30am.

Hopefully this really is the answer we are looking for! I will watch it closely for 1-3months to make sure coming off dairy really is the answer. All I know for sure, this is the best 4 days we have had ina  year and a half.
